Abrasion Resistant Fabric: Ready for Whatever Life has in Store

Our Fabrics stand up to everyday wear and tear with up to 60,000 double rubs on the Wyzenbeel abrasion test scale. This ensures that Outdura fabrics don't pill - even after years of use.

Why is Abrasion Resistance Important?

Outdoor fabric should not only withstand daily use, but stay bright and beautiful for as long as possible. That's why the fabric's abrasion resistance is one of the key features to look out for in outdoor furniture.

What is Abrasion Testing?

Fabrics that are used for upholstery needs to be highly durable - after all, you don't want to see pilling on your outdoor furniture after just a couple of years. To avoid this, our fabrics are tested for textile strength using the Wyzenbeek test, which is the most common method used in the US. The Wyzenbeek test uses double rubs - one double rub is one complete motion back and forth - to determine how long it takes for a fabric to tear. The higher the number, the more resistant the fabric: fabrics used in commercial, high traffic environments need to withstand at least 30,000 double rubs while fabrics for commercial applications are rated at 15,000 double rubs or more.
